Our History

AdelFi unites 130+ years of combined service from Christian Community Credit Union and AdelFi, serving Christian individuals, families, churches, and ministries. As a Christian credit union, AdelFi continues a legacy of faith-aligned financial services that began with two institutions dedicated to helping believers manage their finances with purpose.

Milestones in Christian Banking

1957-1977

    A Mission Begins: Christian Community Credit Union is founded as American Baptist Ministers Credit Union, created by pastors to serve ministry leaders with faith-aligned financial services.

  • 1962 - Archie Dingwall became manager for a staff of two. Rates on share accounts were 4.9%.
    1964

    A Second Foundation: Conservative Baptist Credit Union is established to provide financial services for members of the Conservative Baptist community. This institution will later evolve into AdelFi.

    1970s

     Serving a Broader Christian Community: American Baptist Ministers Credit Union expands its membership and becomes American Baptist Credit Union, reflecting a growing mission beyond pastors to serve the wider Christian community.

  • 1972 - Assets surpassed $7 million in January. John T. Walling joined the ABCU staff as assistant manager and loan officer in June. In October, groundbreaking for the new ABCU headquarters took place in Covina, CA.

    John T. Walling joined American Baptist Credit Union (ABCU) as assistant manager and loan officer, playing a key role in the credit union’s growth and future direction. He later became CEO, serving the organization faithfully over a remarkable 45-year career.

  • 1973 - Construction began in September to add an additional 12,000 square feet to the ABCU Headquarters in Covina. “Striving to Honor Our Lord Through Unique Service to Our American Baptist Constituency” became the new motto. The Credit Union reached $10 million in assets.

    Construction on ABCU’s Covina headquarters began in 1972 and continued into 1973, expanding the facility by an additional 12,000 square feet to support the credit union’s continued growth. During this time, ABCU also adopted a new motto: “Striving to Honor Our Lord Through Unique Service to Our American Baptist Constituency.”

    American Baptist Credit Union surpasses $29 million, and more than 100 American Baptist churches and organizations hold accounts with the Credit Union.

  • 1981 - The Credit Union celebrated its 25th anniversary and installed a new computer system.

    1984

    Expanding Ministry Impact: Conservative Baptist Credit Union merges with the Association of Christian Schools International Credit Union, forming Evangelical Christian Credit Union (ECCU) and expanding services to Christian ministries and organizations nationwide.

  • 1985 - Ohio Baptist Ministers’ Credit Union merged with ABCU and opened a branch in Massillon, Ohio.

1987-1997

  • 1988 - The field of membership grew to serve members in 44 states.

  • 1993 - “The Cards that Give to Missions” credit card program was introduced. Through this program, a portion of the interchange income from ABCU credit cards was given to missions.

  • 1997 - ABCU had a face lift. In celebration of the 40th anniversary, the credit union adopted a new logo that symbolized stability, strength, and growth. ABCU donated a record $100,000 to missions.

1998-2007

  • Evangelical Christian Credit Union Branch
    2000s-2010s

    National Growth: Both Evangelical Christian Credit Union and Christian Community Credit Union expand their reach nationally, supporting Christian families, churches, ministries, and nonprofit organizations with specialized financial services.

  • 2001 - ABCU became AdelFi to reflect the expanding field of membership and the credit union’s vision to serve the larger Christian community. CURewards replaced the “CU in the Air Miles” credit card rewards program.

    American Baptist Credit Union adopts the name Christian Community Credit Union, reflecting its broader mission to serve Christians, churches, and ministries across the country.

  • 2006 - In October, the Credit Union’s new corporate headquarters in San Dimas was dedicated.

  • 2007 - AdelFi celebrated 50 years of service. At this time, the Credit Union had 144 employees, as well as over $440 million in assets, and served over 28,700 members nationwide and in over 100 countries.

2008-2019

  • 2008 - Assets reached $473 million. In partnership with Mission Aviation Fellowship, the Credit Union offered its first affinity card—the MAF Platinum Rewards Visa. The Kingdom Builder Certificate was introduced. Earning 5% APY, it helped provide affordable financing to churches and ministries. The Credit Union’s new tagline, “Your Money at Work Building God’s Kingdom,” expressed what the Credit Union did with members’ deposits.

  • 2017 - The Credit Union celebrated 60 years of helping members become better stewards and achieve their financial goals.

    CCCU celebrated 60 years as a faigh-based Christian credit union, while
    CEO/President, John Walling, retired after 45 years of dedicated & visionary leadership.

  • 2019 - Donations through the “Cards that Gives to Missions” program grew to close to $5 million for disaster relief, anti-human trafficking, and bible distribution humanitarian efforts among others. Credit Union Assets reached $694 million with a record low delinquent loan ratio of 0.13%.

2020-2026

  • Blair Korschun CEO
    2020

    In 2020, CCCU welcomed new CEO Blair Korschun and ranked in the top 8.5% of all U.S. credit unions.

  • 2021 - The Credit Union grew to over $800 million in asset size.

    In 2021, the Credit Union grew to over $800 million in assets. The San Dimas branch, celebrating its grand reopening in July, while closing the Covina branch after serving members there since 1973.

  • AdelFi Better Banking, Higher Purpose
    2022

    AdelFi Is Born! Evangelical Christian Credit Union rebrands as AdelFi, inspired by the Greek word meaning brothers and sisters, reflecting a renewed commitment to faith-driven financial stewardship and community.
    At the same time, CCCU unveiled a refreshed brand and renewed purpose at the 65th Annual Meeting in March 2022.

    Two Legacies Unite—On 12/1/25, AdelFi and Christian Community Credit Union come together through a strategic merger, forming the largest Christian credit union in the United States and uniting more than 130 years of combined service to the Christian community.

Our Statement of Faith

Bible and the Trinity

The Bible is uniquely God-inspired, without error, and the final authority on all matters of faith and practice. There is one God, eternally existing in three persons — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — each possessing all the attributes of Deity.

Sin and Salvation

God created humans, but they disobeyed God by sinfully going their own way. As a result, they need God’s saving grace. Salvation comes only through God’s grace and must be received personally by repentance and faith. This accomplishes salvation for all who receive grace by trusting in Christ as Savior and Lord.

Jesus Christ and Eternal Life

Jesus Christ lived a sinless life on Earth and voluntarily paid for humans’ sin by dying on the cross as their substitute. Jesus Christ rose from the dead and is the only mediator between humans and God. He will return to earth, will raise the dead, and judge all people.

Holy Spirit and the Church

The Holy Spirit draws sinners to Christ, equipping believers for personal growth and service to the Body of Christ, the church. The church is called to proclaim God’s reconciling grace, to glorify God, and serve those in need.
