As the year wraps up, many of us take a moment to look back at God’s goodness and look ahead at how we can bless others. It is a natural time to think about generosity and the ministries that matter most to us. At AdelFi, a division of CCCU, we believe giving is not just a financial choice. It is a spiritual one. Understanding a few updates in tax law can help you make decisions with clarity and peace rather than stress or guesswork.

What’s New for 2025

The standard deduction increases again in 2025, which means many families will continue taking the standard deduction instead of itemizing. That matters because only itemizers can deduct charitable gifts. At the same time, a higher cap on the state and local tax deduction may help some households itemize again, which opens the door for charitable deductions to play a role.

Charitable contribution limits continue to rise with inflation, giving families more flexibility when planning year-end gifts. Donor advised funds also remain a helpful way to contribute now and distribute later, allowing you to respond strategically while keeping your giving intentional.

For those age 70 and a half or older, the Qualified Charitable Distribution limit increases to $108,000 in 2025. This allows you to direct more from your IRA straight to a ministry you care about. This may reduce taxable income in retirement while supporting causes close to your heart. New QCD reporting guidelines this year simply make documentation clearer and more consistent.

Looking Toward 2026

Several changes that begin next year may influence how you plan your giving now. To make the transition easier, here is a simple overview of what is ahead.

• Non-itemizers will gain access to a new charitable deduction for the first time.
• Itemizers will need their giving to exceed 0.5% of adjusted gross income in order to qualify for a deduction.
• High income taxpayers will face a cap on the maximum tax benefit they can receive from charitable gifts.
• The new non-itemizer deduction applies only to direct gifts to public charities, not donor advised funds or private foundations.

These updates may make 2025 a strategic year for planning. Some families may accelerate gifts ahead of the new limits. Others may wait until the new non itemizer deduction becomes available. The right timing depends on your financial picture and the goals behind your generosity.

Why This Season Still Matters Most

No matter how the tax laws shift, the heart of year-end giving stays the same. It is a moment to pause and acknowledge God’s provision. It is a chance to strengthen ministries that serve faithfully all year long. It is a reminder that generosity changes us from the inside out.

Many Christian nonprofits rely on increased support during the final months of the year. Your gifts help them serve more families, grow their impact, and continue the work God has called them to do.

Simple Ways to Give with Purpose

If you want to approach year-end giving with a sense of direction rather than pressure, a few thoughtful steps can help.

• Review your financial picture early so decisions feel intentional rather than rushed.
• Choose ministries that reflect your values and demonstrate strong stewardship.
• Complete gifts before December 31 if you want them counted for this tax year.
• Consider building a long-term rhythm of generosity. Consistent support often carries the greatest impact.
