Our Story
Learn how we've focused on serving our members and their communities since 1964.
Our story begins in 1964 with the founding of the Conservative Baptist Credit Union, which merged in 1984 with the Association of Christian Schools International Credit Union to create ECCU.
Not long after ECCU was created, we began a period of phenomenal growth to become “full service.” We outgrew our building and added staff to support growth in membership, products, and services.
ECCU has continued to grow and transform to become the premier banking option for Christian consumers and ministries throughout the U.S. Through the years, what hasn’t changed is ECCU’s commitment to the mission of equipping evangelical Christian ministries and individuals to manage their financial resources better so they can pursue their mission. We understand the ministry and know the questions ministries are faced with.
We begin our next 50 years as a growing alliance of more than 10,000 individual members and organizations demonstrating and declaring the gospel in more than 130 countries worldwide. We look forward to serving even more Christ-centered ministries, businesses, individuals, and families as we help protect, grow, and share their financial resources.
In 2022, the credit union underwent a rebrand to become AdelFi. The root of our new name is the Greek word “adelphos/adelphoi,” which is used throughout the New Testament to mean brothers and sisters in Christ. This word occurs over 300 times, including in Mark 3:35 and Hebrews 2:17. In addition, “adel” is Hebrew for “God is eternal; noble.” The suffix “-fi” is a nod to financial stewardship—gathering God’s gifts for good.
AdelFi now begins a new chapter as we unite with Christian Credit Union. Built on more than 60 years of shared history and mission, this partnership brings together two like-hearted, Christ-centered credit unions committed to serving the Christian community with integrity, purpose, and faith. Together, we form the largest Christian credit union in the nation—expanding our reach, enhancing our services, and strengthening our ability to steward the financial well-being of Christian individuals, families, ministries, and businesses. We look forward to this next season of growth as we faithfully build on our mission and deepen our impact for the Kingdom.
